microMOTET: There Is Only Emptiness In The Eyes Of A Lonely God/Alle Menschen Mussen Sterben

(1999) Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Flute, Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, Violin, Viola, Cello

microMOTET: There Is Only Emptiness In The Eyes Of A Lonely God/Alle Menschen Mussen Sterben is a combination of two separate layers of contrapuntal techniques. There is a polytextual motet à la the middle ages which uses a Bach setting of Alle Menschen Mussen Sterben as the cantus firmus while above it is a poem written by the composer shortly after the death of his grandfather. The polytextual motet is accompanied by a micro-canon in the strings. This is all followed by a celebration of Bach's Alle Menschen Mussen Sterben. This work is dedicated to the composer’s grandfather, Frank A. Hosale, who passed away August 27, 1992.
